Does Holocaust Remembrance Day Cause More anti-Semitism Instead of Reducing It

April 17, 2007

MEDIA ADVISORY, April 12 /Christian Newswire/ — One only needs to visit the Holocaust Museums in Washington, D.C. or Jerusalem, Israel to see the horrific truth. One of the most graphic illustrations of the Holocaust is found in the Yad Vashem Holocaust Remembrance Museum in Jerusalem where a pit about the size of a box car is filled to the brim with shoes—shoes of all sizes, men’s shoes, boy’s shoes, women’s shoes and girl’s shoes. These shoes represent some of those actual Jews who were systematically executed by Hitler’s Nazi regime.

Each year in April, the world observes Holocaust Remembrance Day in memory of the 6 million Jews who lost their lives during the Nazi reign of terror. This year it falls on April 16th in Israel. While a remembrance of those who suffered and still suffer the Holocaust is proper, radio talk show host, Rabbi Daniel Lapin, nationally acclaimed speaker and best- selling author, believes that Judaism is about adding joy to life not recalling gas chambers and crematoria. In fact, Rabbi Lapin says that a private day of remembrance within the Jewish community is fine, but force-feeding Holocaust studies to non-Jewish students may be causing anti-Semitism rather than reducing it. Rabbi Lapin answers the following provocative questions:

Is Holocaust Remembrance Day a fitting and proper tribute to those who were killed in the Holocaust and those who still survive its painful memory?

How do Jewish families, who likely have had relatives and friends die in the Holocaust, handle the claims of those who say it never happened?

Why does the Holocaust attract so much more media attention than the other genocides of the 20th century?

Does forcing the Holocaust upon non Jews lead to more anti-Semitism rather than less?

Do you find anti-Semitism in today’s America?

Led by Iran, many Islamist sects deny that the Holocaust even occurred. Should Holocaust deniers be confronted or ignored?

Is anti-Semitism the true roadblock to peace in the Middle East?

His insights into modern political and cultural trends combined with the courage to speak the truth and the ability to transmit God’s Biblical message in a straight forward and engaging way, have made him a unique messenger for today’s times.
