I was raised a catholic. I thought I was a Christian…

My Story
I was born to faithful catholic parents and was raised in the catholic church. At a very young age, I wanted to do more than sit in a pew at mass, so I volunteered to be an altar boy and was trained to serve on the altar. In time, I was elevated to the leadership position, overseeing all of the altar servers in my parish. I coordinated the schedule and the activities of the altar servers, and took part in other committees, groups, and functions of the church, including adult education.

I also became a sunday school teacher, preparing young catholic children for their first communion. Once I reached my twenties I became a lector, and each weekend I stood on the altar and read to those in attendance at mass. In time, I was recruited by the head of the church’s RCIA program to become an instructor, teaching converts who desired to become a part of the catholic church.

After 44 years a catholic, I knew in my heart that I was a Christian. I went to church, I followed the catholic doctrine, I knew for sure that I was saved.

How could I have been so wrong?

One day I was watching television, and while changing channels I happened upon a local program that featured a preacher who said he had a special message for all the catholics who were watching. He said that many teachings of the catholic church are contrary to the Bible itself. He declared that catholics who followed the doctrines of the church were being misled and most likely had not received the gift of eternal salvation.

I found that a tough pill to swallow, so the next day I decided to speak to my priest about what I’d heard.

“Father, why did this TV preacher say that the teachings of the catholic church are different from what is in the Bible?” I asked.

“I am not willing to go one inch down the road that ends with the media publishing only that which someone thinks Muhammad would approve.” — Gary McCullough, Director, Christian Newswire
MEDIA ADVISORY, Sept. 17 /Standard Newswire/ — Last week Al-Qaida offered a reward of $100,000 for the murder Lars Vilks. A reward was also offered for the murder of the chief editor of the Swedish newspaper, Nerikes Allehanda.

On Sept 16, Christian Newswire made the controversial cartoons of Lars Vilks available at www.christiannewswire.com/news/912904201.html and www.earnedmedia.org/vilks0916.htm

Christian Newswire took a similar stand when they published controversial cartoons in February of 2006.

Director of the Christian Newswire, Gary McCullough comments:

“As was the case with the ‘Jyllands-Posten’ Muhammad cartoons controversy, many are reporting on the cartoons without having access to them. So once again our primary reason for publishing the cartoons is to provide a needed service to reporters. I also believe there is a need to stand against such intimidation.

“The world’s news media are facing the same decision many nations face in dealing with terrorists. Do we acquiesce to unjust demands under the threat of violence even though history clearly demonstrates that by doing so we encourage future acts of violence?

“So as I did in 2006, I challenge newspaper publishers and the broadcasters who claim any freedom to display newsworthy items; it is not too late to send a clear message. I ask you to publish the controversial cartoons to say that we will not be censored by threats of violence.

“The alternative will not be peace. The alterative will be increased violence to censor the media. You must decide if you will negotiate away a foundational principle. If you run from this battle you will embolden those who use terror to restrict what you publish.

“I am not willing to go one inch down the road that ends with the media publishing only that which someone thinks Muhammad would approve

MEDIA ADVISORY, Oct. 3 /Standard Newswire/ — The Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons published a study yesterday entitled, “The Breast Cancer Epidemic.” It showed that, among seven risk factors, abortion is the “best predictor of breast cancer,” and fertility is also a useful predictor. [1]

The study by Patrick Carroll of PAPRI in London showed that countries with higher abortion rates, such as England & Wales, could expect a substantial increase in breast cancer incidence. Where abortion rates are low (i.e., Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic) a smaller increase is expected. Where a decline in abortion has taken place, (i.e., Denmark and Finland) a decline in breast cancer is anticipated.

Carroll used the same mathematical model for a previous forecast of numbers of breast cancers in future years for England & Wales based on cancer data up to 1997 that has proved quite accurate for predicting cancers observed in years 1998 to 2004. [2]

In four countries - England & Wales, Scotland, Finland and Denmark - a social gradient has been discovered (unlike that for other cancers) whereby upper class and upwardly mobile women have more breast cancer than lower class women. This was studied in Finland and Denmark and the influence of known risk factors other than abortion was examined, but the gradient was not explained.

Carroll suggests that the known preference for abortion in this class might explain the phenomenon. Women pursuing higher educations and professional careers often delay marriage and childbearing. Abortions before the birth of a first child are highly carcinogenic.

Carroll used national data from nations believed to have “nearly complete abortion counts.” Therefore, his study is not affected by recall bias.

“It’s time for scientists to admit publicly what they already acknowledge privately among themselves [3,4] - that abortion raises breast cancer risk - and to stop conducting flawed research to protect the medical establishment from massive medical practice lawsuits,” said Karen Malec, president of the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer. See discussions of flawed research. [5,6,7,8,9,10]

Carroll can be contacted at: +44 (0) 20-7354-5667.

The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer is an international women’s organization founded to protect the health and save the lives of women by educating and providing information on abortion as a risk factor for breast cancer.

LINCOLN, Nebraska, Jan. 4 /Christian Newswire/ — Pro-life activists Shari McKee and Melissa Abbink were jailed on December 28th, 2007, (Feast of the Holy Innocents), for speaking to Lincoln abortionist Winston Crabb on two occasions in front of his home 10 years ago. Abbink faces five months in jail while McKee has been sentenced to serve eight months behind bars.

In February, 1998, both were charged with violating the “focused picketing” ordinance even though neither had signs and both incidents lasted only a minute each, just long enough to plead for the lives of pre- born children as he walked from his car to his house.

After exhausting the appeals of the criminal cases, the convictions were upheld by the Nebraska Supreme Court on September 10, 1999. However, for reasons unknown, the mandate did not come down until September 28, 2005, over 6 years later!

The last two years have been spent seeking a commutation. The women’s cases were brought before the Board of Pardons, which was very sympathetic, but refused to act because the Board does not review misdemeanor cases. The Board referred the cases to the Mayor of Lincoln, who has refused to act claiming he does not have the authority to grant commutations.

According to the women’s attorneys, the Mayor clearly does have the authority to commute misdemeanor sentences.

“We are asking pro-lifers to write to Mayor Beutler and ask him to commute the sentences of these two women,” said Larry Donlan, Director of Rescue the Heartland. “Be sure to point out that the Pardon Board says he has the authority to do so. Be polite and remember, it is a commutation that we are after, not a pardon. Like the parable of the widow, we are seeking justice for these two brave, God-fearing women. Only Mayor Beutler has that ability to grant that justice. He can do so by merely picking up the phone.”

MEDIA ADVISORY, March 17 /Christian Newswire/ — North Americans are urged to contact Egyptian consulates to express concern about a police raid on a Christian bookstore in Cairo, Egypt, said Jan Fletcher, executive director of Advocates For The Persecuted.

Egyptian police arrested Shenouda Armia Bakhait midday Saturday, March 15, confiscating books, compact discs, and issues of a newspaper read by Christians in Egypt. He was released Sunday night after posting bail in the amount of 500 EGP.

According to sources in Egypt, Egyptian authorities have said a summons will be issued for Shenouda Armia Bakhait to appear in court. It is not clear what, if any, formal accusations have been made.

David Joseph, president of Advocates For The Persecuted, said, “At 12 noon, Cairo time, General Tarik Barakat, Lt. Assem Al Sherief, and eight undercover policemen stormed into the Nile Christian Book Shop. They spent two hours searching everything in the bookstore. Mr. Shenouda was interrogated for more than five hours by Mohamed Abou al Fetouh, a prosecutor, and Mohammed Issa, president of the court.”

Joseph is president of the Egyptian Christian Youth Union, which runs the Nile Christian Book Shop. The Church of God in Egypt owns the bookstore. Joseph founded the Egyptian Christian Youth Union in 1982. A U.S. citizen, he now resides in El Cajon, California.

Fletcher said the arrest came one day after Mohammed Hegazy came into the bookstore, apparently to buy books.

Hegazy is the first Egyptian Muslim convert to petition Egypt’s Administrative Court to change his religious affiliation on his national identity card. A hearing over his petition sparked a melee in an Egyptian courtroom in January. Judge Muhammad Husseini denied Hegazy’s request in January, ruling that it was against Islamic law for a Muslim to leave Islam.

The Nile Christian Book Shop opened in 2006 in a location that first housed a bookstore in 1890.

“We posted a suggested letter we’d like to see sent to Egyptian consulates on our website at www.advocatesforthepersecuted.org,” said Fletcher. “Sending this letter is an important step Americans and Canadians can take to present a clear message to Egypt’s government that the sizable population of Christians in Egypt, estimated to comprise 8 to 10 percent of the population, should have the right to distribute and obtain Christian literature.

Advocates For The Persecuted is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that advocates for religious minorities in the Middle East, with offices in Spokane, Wash., and El Cajon, Calif.

FRONT ROYAL, Va., March 10 /Christian Newswire/ — Once again, “American Idol” is aligning itself with pro-abortion Save the Children and UNICEF. On March 8, 2007, “American Idol” unveiled its “Idol Gives Back” project, the stated goal of which was to “raise awareness of the effects of poverty on children and young people.” Last year, the project generated more than $75 million.

The second Idol Gives Back program will air on April 9, 2008. Like last year, several celebrities will appear on the show to urge Americans to make a donation.

“For years UNICEF spokesmen denied promoting contraception or abortion,” wrote Winifride Prestwich in UNICEF: Guilty As Charged. She said records prove that “step by step over a 30-year period UNICEF has tied itself to the population controllers and to the anti- life, anti-family attitudes of such organizations as the International Planned Parenthood Federation.”

A study released by the International Organizations Research Group (IORG) documented UNICEF’s ties to abortion and radical feminism. UNICEF: Women or Children First? showed that UNICEF has helped write many documents that call for increased access to abortion and the legalization of the deadly act worldwide.

IORG discovered that UNICEF has funded a program run by the militantly pro-abortion Population Council, which holds the U.S. patent for the abortion pill, RU- 486. UNICEF has also supported a South African group that targets adolescents with a pro-abortion message.

It is now official UNICEF policy to “Promote and expand access to sexual and reproductive health services, including access to condoms,” the IORG report stated. A high-ranking UNICEF official even called for his group to “make condoms available and accessible for everybody, everywhere and at all times. Abstinence is simply not a realistic option for most young people in the world today.”

The evidence that UNICEF has actively promoted the Culture of Death is overwhelming and indisputable:

In 1987, UNICEF officially endorsed “good quality abortion services” at the International Conference on Better Health for Women and Children in Nairobi, Kenya.
In 1993, UNICEF raised its contribution to the United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) open support for Communist China’s “one-child family” policy from $2 million to $5 million.
In 1997, the Vatican cut funding to UNICEF after the group co-sponsored a manual that endorsed emergency birth control. (Emergency birth control most often causes an early abortion.) UNICEF also refused to provide a detailed accounting of its population control and pro-abortion programs.
On October 26, 2002, the Calgary Herald reported that UNICEF has been straying from its mission for many years. The article, titled “UNICEF’s Other Agendas,” included an interview with Mary Kassian, author of The Feminist Gospel. “Hundreds of thousands of children are still dying of TB or malaria, or because they don’t have clean water. And the UN is giving them IUDs…I chose long ago not to support UNICEF and to support those good causes through other agencies that aren’t tainted.”

Save the Children has a working relationship with what it calls “prominent international organizations.” Several of these groups are actively pro-abortion, including Better World Fund, Center for Reproductive Rights, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Population Action International, and the U.S. Committee for UNICEF.

In 2001, Save the Children worked with Planned Parenthood, the Population Action Council, and the pro-abortion Audubon Society on its five-year “Planet Campaign.” Funded by the rabidly pro- abortion/population control David and Lucile Packard and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundations, the purpose of the campaign was to “raise awareness of the connections between international family planning and the health of children, women and the environment.” The Planet Campaign used television and print advertising, community outreach, special events, and other activities to spread its message. Save the Children said the campaign’s website provided “an international forum for discussion of, and action on, women’s reproductive health—including family planning—in various countries and diverse cultures around the world.”

Save the Children has stated that “family planning” has been a “critical component” of its work for nearly 20 years. The group quoted a UNICEF document which stated that “family planning could bring more benefits to more people at less cost than any other single technology now available to the human race.” Save the Children noted that the report identified “access to family planning” as a “key factor contributing to maternal and child survival and well- being.”

“It is laudable that the people involved with “American Idol” want to help the poor,” said LDI President Douglas R. Scott, Jr. “But it is tragic that they would choose to do so through groups like UNICEF and Save the Children. These groups have far too much deadly baggage.” Of course, what many people do not know, because “American Idol” has not chosen to mention it, is that Simon Cowell is the chief executive officer of International Save the Children. This is surely why Save the Children was selected as a recipient charity.

“‘American Idol’ should stop using the contestants to raise money for groups when they are keeping the activities of these charities a secret,” Scott said. “‘American Idol’ should practice full disclosure and give those contestants who may wish to decline participation in ‘Idol Gives Back’ the opportunity to do so without repercussions.”

“If you believe the plight of preborn children is as important as the plight of the poor, do not participate in ‘Idol Gives Back’” Scott urged. “We are caring people who want to do our part to help those less fortunate, but we will do so through organizations that do not view the killing of human beings as a ’solution’ to poverty and other adult-created problems.”

Life Decisions International (LDI) is dedicated to challenging the Culture of Death, concentrating on exposing and fighting the agenda of Planned Parenthood. LDI’s chief project is a boycott of corporations that fund the abortion-committing giant. To learn more about Planned Parenthood, please visit: http://www.fightpp.org/show.cfm?page=wrong

The American Association of ProLife Obstetricians and Gynecologists Responds to the ACOG Promulgated “Limitations of Conscientious Refusal.”
MEDIA ADVISORY, Feb. 20 /Christian Newswire/ — In Nov 07, the (ACOG) American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s Ethics Committee issued a formal Opinion titled “The Limits of Conscientious Refusal In Reproductive Medicine.” This Opinion warns Ob/Gyn doctors that their practice pattern can be considered “unethical” by ACOG standards if they do not either do abortions, or refer patients desiring an abortion to an abortion provider. The Opinion goes so far as to suggest that pro-life doctors should locate their office in proximity to an abortion provider, for the convenience of such patients. The American Board of Ob/Gyn in January 08, published revised standards for doctors seeking recertification (which maintains their professional reputation in good standing). The revised standards are tied to ACOG Ethics compliance. This is a raw power play to cripple, and ultimately eliminate from practice, those doctors who hold a conscience conviction on the sanctity of human life, and refuse to have a part in doing, or referring for, the elective, deliberate taking of an unborn human life.

The American Association of ProLife Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) objects strenuously to this attempt, by a professional medical organization (ACOG), using “ethics violations” and “denial of recertification” as a battering ram, to force pro-life doctors into pro-choice compliance. This country has, since its beginnings, honored the legitimate conscience convictions of its citizens. Pro-life doctors refuse either to electively kill the unborn, or to become an accomplice to such killing by referral to an abortionist. This is a legitimate conscience conviction held by AAPLOG members, and by many other physicians in various specialties.

The Position Statement issued by AAPLOG on Feb 6. 2008, concludes, “… it seems that the (ACOG) Ethics Committee does not understand the strength and depth of a conscience conviction against the elective, deliberate taking of an unborn human life. This is not a negotiable issue for those who hold this conviction. The United States Supreme Court allowed elective abortion to be a legal right. The U.S. Supreme Court is not an infallible moral guide for a person’s conscience, as evidenced by a previous similar egregious ruling.7 (This references the infamous 1857 Dred Scott decision, in which the US Supreme court, by a 7-2 majority, concluded that Africans are “beings of an inferior order” than the white race, and slaves are property devoid of all rights of legal redress for grievances. The US Supreme court got it wrong in 1887, and they made the same mistake in 1973 in Roe vs. Wade: Unborn children are fully human, and are entitled to the same right to life as the rest of society.)

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., March 30 /Christian Newswire/ — Bill Keller, the world’s leading Internet Evangelist and the founder of LivePrayer.com, has received numerous death threats from Muslims who want him dead for posting the controversial anti- Muslim movie Fitna on his website. Fitna is a film by Dutch politician Geert Wilders, leader of the Party for Freedom (PVV) in the Dutch parliament. The movie offers his view on Islam and the Qur’an.

The film’s title comes from the Arabic word fitna which is used to describe “disagreement and division among people”, or a “test of faith in times of trial”. The sixteen minute movie shows a selection of Suras from the Qur’an, interspersed with partial newspaper clippings and media clips. The movie is accompanied by music from the Peer Gynt suite by Edvard Grieg.

When asked why Liveprayer would put such a movie on their website Keller responded, “People have been lulled to sleep thinking that terror is caused by a handful of extremists. That is not the case. All Muslims read from the same book, and to obey ‘allah,’ are expected to obey what their holy book teaches. That includes death to all infidels, or those who won’t covert to their false religion, and ruling the world. This film is very graphic, but people need to see and know what Islam is really about, converting the world to their false beliefs through terror and death!”

LiveLeak, a British video-sharing website pulled the movie after the organization reported “serious” threats to its staff members. “Following threats to our staff of a very serious nature, and some ill informed reports from certain corners of the British media that could directly affect the safety of some staff members, LiveLeak has been left with no other choice but to remove Fitna from our servers. This is a sad day for freedom of speech on the net but we have to place the safety and well being of our staff above all else,” the organization said.

The movie can be viewed at: http://liveprayer.com/fitna.cfm
